A Mother’s Day tea ride – and a Mums on Bikes photo contest!

With May just around the corner, this just in from Frocks on Bikes:

Mother’s Day Ride – Sunday 10 May

For all who are mums and/or love their mums (that includes you, fellas), celebrate all things mum with a Mother’s Day Ride, kicking off with morning tea at 11am at Blend Store Cafe in The Shelter, 78 MacKelvie Street. High fives to Blend Store for shouting a free cup of tea to all!

While you’re there, purchase a yummy slice, ogle the handsome bike accessories, and take one of their gorgeous Tokyo Bikes (made by women) for a spin.

Then it’s off for a ride down Ponsonby Rd towards the new Westhaven boardwalk…

… and then onwards to wherever takes your fancy, in the happy, open-ended manner of the best frock flocks. Bring a picnic, or treat yourself and your mama to a leisurely lunch downtown or somewhere along the way back home? It’s up to you.

(NB: keen to do a Mother’s Day Ride, but a long way from downtown? By all means, organise one in your own hood. You’ll be pleasantly surprised how many biking mamas there are out there!)

But wait, there’s more…

A Mother’s Day Photo Contest!

Whether it be teaching you to ride, or pedalling alongside you just the other weekend: post your cutest Mum and bike photo to the Bubs on Bikes Facebook page, and be in to win high tea for 2 at The Langham! A great excuse to dig out the old photo albums, or get snap-happy with the kiddos or your dear old ma.

And while we’re celebrating the joy of women on bikes, feast your eyes on this short film from the Netherlands – where more women than men ride bikes. There’s something so hypnotic and soothing and inspiring about seeing women of all styles and ages just going about their day on wheels, in all weathers. Goosebumps every time!
