I got this reply from Penny Webster this morning re the email I sent in support of the pathway.

Thank you for your email and interest in the Auckland Harbour Bridge (AHB) Pathway project. Councillors have yet to receive updated information about the AHB Pathway project from Auckland Transport, although Councillors did receive a submission and updated business case from AHB Pathway Trust. At a workshop on 10 May, Councillors received advice from Auckland Transport that at a cost of $30 million, the AHB Pathway project is unable to be funded out of the usual funds from Council and NZTA over the next ten years. This project is only likely to proceed if it could be substantially funded by the private sector. Auckland Transport is currently reviewing the business case put forward by AHB Pathway Trust and is assessing the risks and the level of investment that could be expected from the Council. It is intended that this information will be available by 23 May.
Deliberations on the Long Term Plan will be made at the Strategy & Finance Committee meeting on 23 May. Provided information is made available to Councillors, a decision could be made on this project at that meeting.
Regards

Shared spaces are a great place for starting or ending your bike trip, or pausing for a chat. Great for 'liveability'. They don't replace dedicated cycleways for getting from A to B though.

At least there isn't a double row of parking spaces delineating the, um, shared part from the, um, shared part like Lower Cuba St in Wgtn's shared space FAIL: http://www.stuff.co.nz/dominion-post/news/local-papers/the-wellingtonian/5282525/Lower-Cuba-St-shared-space-or-road-for-cars

These barriers & bollards do not increase the risk you describe. If motorists would obey the law, the situation would be exactly the same here as it is (again) now with the bollards.

It is also interesting that you seem to (presumably) feel that it is okay for motorists to break the law (which is why these bollards had to be placed - if motorists didn't break the law, we would not need them), yet you feel the need to give cyclists an ALL CAPS lecture on how they apparently are all law-breakers anyway.

Lastly, you seem to have some strange ideas that these bollards allow cyclists to run the red light. All they do is give cyclists back their legal space.

Thanks Richard, that's a good point about the need for regular sweeping on the cyclelane. I'll flag it with the Project Manager, as he has been really great in staying in touch, and wants this to be a success as much as we do.
As this is the first of these delinerators to be used in Auckland for cycling, regular riders using this route could help by monitoring it, and report it to AT's actionline - ph335 3553 or email their website, aucklandtransport.govt.nz as they will have it swept.
BTW - remember any cyclist can ask AT's actionline for this anywhere around the city,as it is a safety issue. From what I am hearing, their response times are usually pretty good.

Well done CAA and Transport Auckland. This could apply well in other places provided the cycle lane is of correct width ( 1.5 Metre minimum from the edge of the gutter not the kerb). e.g. If the barriers were used on Greenlane West cycle lane they would take up half the stupid lane and require stunt riding by cyclists!!!

One potential problem is that without the illegal traffic using all or part of the lane rubbish and glass debris will build up and the lane will need sweeping regularly

Wow, thank you so much for promoting our project. We're all passionate here at RASNZ about it because we've helped so many people who have come to NZ with nothing and have real difficulties getting around. Your bicycle can make a world of difference to them. Take a look at our Facebook site and please "like" us, that would be great. And, most important - KEEP THOSE BICYCLES COMING. Regards Diana for RASNZ
