350 Big Bike Fix Up
Climate Working Bee Gets Bikes Rolling Again
A stack of bikes are out of sheds and on the road again this summer thanks to the Big Bike Fixup on 10/10/10.
Tumeke Cycle Space (Auckland’s community run bike workshop), Cycle Action Auckland, pro-mechanics, and a team of volunteers helped dozens of Aucklanders fix their broken spokes, rusty chains and loose cables and get riding again. As well as getting their bikes fixed and cleaned, participants enjoyed bike-powered smoothies, entertainment, bike decoration for the kids, cycle skills workshops, cycle route information and a leisurely bike ride to Queen’s Wharf.

The event was one of 1000s worldwide held on 10/10/10 and part of a Global Climate Working Bee, when groups across the world worked on lowering carbon levels by fixing houses and bikes, planting trees and tending community gardens. As well as achieving positive action on the ground, the global events sent a message to world leaders that communities are ready for, and committed to, climate change.
