Cycle Style Auckland
On 1 July 2010 over 450 people braved a mid-winter evening to attend a unique show of stylish bikes and fashion at Auckland’s Viaduct Harbour. Guests were treated to valet bike parking, wine and gourmet canapés, invited to try out Copenhagen- style and everyday bikes and were treated to a Cycle Style fashion show.
Everyday cyclists, fixies, road, BMX – and non cyclists came to check out this combination of cycling and style.
10 bike retailers were invited to show off their bikes and accessories, including Mamachari who drove their bikes up from Wellington, especially for the event, and local fashion labels Dalston & Derny displayed their clothing with Rose McLeod of Waiheke making 10 outfits especially for the fashion show.
Valet parking and free maintenance checks was provided for the many who arrived by bicycle. Sponsored prizes were awarded for best dressed, for bringing a non cyclist to the event and for arriving by bike.
The highlight of the evening was the Cycle Style fashion show featuring local fashion designers, bike retailers and street style. The budget for the event was provided by the Road Safety team at Auckland City Council, North Shore City Council and Cycle Action Auckland. You can see the video of the event here
