Accolades for the stars of the NW Cycleway – Henderson Ck cycleway

NW Henderson Ck path Cutting the ribbonWe joke in our family about the 6 stages experienced in delivering projects –

  • Excitement – to have won the project contract
  • Boredom – as the work routine sets in
  • Despondency – as the inevitable problems arise
  • Search for the guilty
  • Blame for the innocent
  • Accolades for the uninvolved.

This was in my mind today as I was presenting to the NZTA Project Managers’ Conference. The Conference meant I missed today’s casual opening ceremony for the Henderson Creek cycleway project. Instead of the usual palaver, where the uninvolved people turn up in suits to wield the scissors, today’s event was about those who have made the project happen.

It  demonstrated the teamwork that has been the hallmark of the new section of cycleway. Phil and Paul represented local cyclists who have been watching progress with interest and our local cycling panel who have been liaising with the contractor, Fulton Hogan and Auckland Transport staff, at critical times. The Transport Agency was represented by Sarah Price, who is doing such a wonderful job with Communications for the SH16 Causeway Upgrade team, and Fulton’s Brian Robertson was there with some of his key staff who have displayed such goodwill to the daily flow of people cycling by. The only person missing was our AT local engineer who is on the job improving the link to Lincoln Rd – Triangle Rd.

Thanks to Sarah for her photo of the event. Nice to see recognition for those who are making a difference in delivering our new cycling routes!
