Northwestern Cycleway
The Northwestern Cycleway is probably the best “commuter” cycle route in Auckland, currently running from west of Te Atatu as far as the edge of the City Centre. It is almost entirely off-road, providing great convenience and safety.
The cycleway is the second-busiest cycle route in Auckland (after Tamaki Drive), and as such, protecting and improving it features highly on Cycle Action Auckland’s priorities list.
We are constantly engaged with Council and NZTA on thevarious motorway and cycleway works currently ongoing, which include(d) new sections at Kingsland, coming upgrades to the causeway between Te Atatu and Pt Chevalier, provision for cyclists at interchanges, side routes onto the cycleway, and of course, the current flagship project – the Grafton Gully Cycleway into the City Centre and down to the Waterfront.
