Papakura Interchange Upgrade

NZTA are preparing to upgrade the Papakura Interchange of State Highway 1 starting later this year. Cycle Action Auckland has received the chance to input on the design of the interchange, and we particularly like the fact that the interchange is to receive a wide, off-road cyclepath through most (and hopefully, in the final design, all) of the interchange.

Changing the currently often very intimidating cycling and walking environment of our interchanges will be key to reducing the barrier effects that motorways have on our environment – such as for the people living in the growing residential areas of Papakura west of the motorway, so they can easily reach the town centre to the east, without being forced to use the car.
