Saturday 6 August – Cycling in the City!

There are TWO great opportunities to get on your bike this Saturday 6 August.  Check out both or simply enjoy one or the other.  Either way there is a heap of fun to be had.

Wynyard Quarter opens for The Public!

Seafood lovers, sea-breeze lovers – and people who love to ride a tram, walk or cycle – will be getting a big new area to explore from August onwards. Auckland Waterfront, the Council-Controlled Organisation (CCO) that owns and develops our waterfront, is opening up a big part of the new Wynyard Quarter area (once known as the “Tank Farm”) to the public.

Numerous events are planned for WynyardQuarterPublicOpening Saturday 6th of August. There will be free music performances, as well as arts and cinema events – and you get to be the first in line to explore new public spaces, venues and restaurants (focusing around seafood venues at the expanded “red shed”) as well as the new “Wynyard Crossing” bridge (just for walkers and cyclists!) from Viaduct Habour.

Cycle Action Auckland will be running bike buses to the Waterfront Area departing at 11 AM Saturday from Mission Bay’s Mecca and Western Park.  There will also be hourly jaunts (starting at 12PM) around the waterfront departing from Silo Park.

Cyclists will also be keen to hear that Auckland Waterfront had some very positive discussions with us, and that we whole-heartedly support their future plans for the area, which are likely to involve quite a lot for walking and cycling (more to come on this when the Waterfront Plan is provided for public comment in about a month).

Open Day – SH16 Hobsonville Deviation

NZTA / HEB Construction have invited walkers and cyclists to view the new motorway between Massey North and Greenhithe, which will become the new route of SH 16 in a few months. The open day will be Saturday 6th of August, and cyclists will be able to ride it between 2-3pm (Last entry at 2:30 PM), from the Trig Road Interchange. MediaRelease & OpenDayDetails

We have really enjoyed working with HEB Construction on this project – their consultation team has been A+! Thanks heaps!
