TelstraClear Challenge Launch

We are excited to see the inaugural year of the TelstraClear Challenge coming together.

The TelstraClear Challenge aims to not only provide an opportunity for cyclists to ride the exclusive Auckland Harbour Bridge and Northern Busway but a chance for us as a community to celebrate cycling – from road bikes to trikes; style to sport.

Mayor Len Brown was on hand at the event’s launch, championing the role cycling can play in making Auckland the world’s most livable city.   In addition, our own Barbara Cuthbert, and NZTA Regional Director Stephen Town both spoke about the collaboration of many in making the event possible & the delight of seeing the event and cycling in Auckland moving forward.

The launch June 17 at Smales Farm was clearly energized by the excitement of that momentum within the cycling community:  kids, commuters, roadies, elite, and everyone in between.  Yes, there is a lot of emphasis on riding the bridge, but families and kids will also have an awesome day riding the Busway or simply enjoying the bike fair.

Imagine what Smales Farm will look like in December with thousands of cyclists taking part in the Community Bike Festival.  We are really excited about being apart of this energetic and fun element of the day.  We hope all participants and supporters will stay to enjoy the festivities, which will include everything from a balance bike course, face painting & clowns for the kids, to interactive activities and displays for BMX, Road, Mountain, and urban cycling.  Bring the family out for a picnic and some summer fun.

The same will hold true for the 110km finish.  If you are worried that extra last minute training may interfere with holiday shopping and prep…. Never fear.  Cyclists finishing at the Kumeu showgrounds will be treated to not only to finish line festivities but the bonus of the Kumeu Farmers Market and great live music.  Participants and their support teams can stay to enjoy the expo and summer market.

It is all a part of the ride.  The TelstraClear Challenge truly will be a highlight of a great season of summer cycling.  December 11th is an opportunity for Auckland cyclists to come out en masse.  We hope to see you all on the day.
