The Bike Market Begins!

Bike Auckland

Guest post by Anthony Clyde, Bute Bikes

The Bike Market – What is it? It was one of those middle-of-the-night-can’t-sleep ideas. Why the heck not!

A place where cyclists can bring their bikes to sell (free of charge). A place others can come to look at secondhand bikes, not just through images online, but can come and kick a tyre, chat to the owner… simple, runs for 2 hours, once a month.

The key is ASAP getting enough bikes displayed to make it worthwhile for buyers to come… bit of a catch 22 really. But we’ll give it a go and hope!  It has the potential to grow into something quite awesome for our cycling community… a place to come to look, but also to catch up with others, have a coffee… and join in the group ride at the end of each market.

Eventually we could run other events around this… guest speakers, etc…

Our store, Bute Bikes, is purely an ebike shop, but we are passionate about becoming a hub for cycle community… a node for proActivism… We are in a great spot in Browns Bay. Heaps of room out front and the lane down the side for over 100 bikes. We have eftpos in the shop so buyers can use that and we can write a cheque out to the sellers. Just want to make it easy…

  • Buy sell swap
  • No stall fees
  • Only second hand bikes
  • UpCycle reCycle ?

The first market is on Sunday Nov 18th, beside Bute Bikes, 17 Bute Road, Browns Bay, 10am-midday, followed by a group ride (the route decided by the group on the day).

Regards,

Anthony
