New wheels for old – the Bike Market returns!

Jolisa

Got an old bike to sell for a song? Looking for a new or secondhand bike to buy? Or just want to trade your bike for another one? Auckland Transport’s bustling Bike Market is back, perfectly timed for Christmas shopping and summer fun.

When: Sunday 22 November 2015, 9am – 2pm

Where: YMCA Stadium, Greys Ave, in the city.

Details below – and more info here. There’s no fee to sell a bike; just bring it along. There’ll be new bikes for sale as well as secondhand ones, and bike mechanics on hand to advise about bike style, fit, and any repairs.

Also – free entry to the YMCA on the day, a BBQ/sausage sizzle, and lots of great bike info. Bowl along and find some new wheels, or send your old ones out on a new journey with a new person!

Buying

Buying at the bike market is a unique opportunity to try before you buy. Physically inspect the bike that you are interested in, talk with the current owner about how it rides, ask some friendly volunteers on the day for advice about what type of bike can best suit you and make an informed purchase by having your potential ride checked over by a bike mechanic. Bike mechanics can provide you with an unbiased assessment of the bike and let you know how to solve any issues there may be.

Trading

Trades are welcome at the bike market. Simply bring down your bike on the day and feel free to make offers to other sellers or buyers.

Selling

Get your old bike out of the garage, bring it down to the bike market, park up and sell! Selling at the bike market is easy, fun and free!

Availability of selling space is on a first come, first served basis.

This event is organised and sponsored by Auckland Transport and there are no fees or costs.

PS what if you want to bring home a new bike on your old bike, aka “metaquaxing”? Here’s a hack for that, courtesy of What A Bike Can Do:
